These videos and interviews are indeed promotional. They give us interesting insights into specs, and I agree with others that I trust Clive Mason far more than any utuber. It is counterproductive for an experienced professional, and equally Nikon in fact, to publish dishonest claims on their official website(s)
The most reliable 'hard information we have to date is the D6 Brochure, also published by Nikon:
You seriously trust a guy who says this about a camera? "Looking at ISO 6400 now on the D6, you would think it was ISO 2000 on a D5. It is so much better."
If he is talking about Nikon's jpeg engine then sure maybe that engine really sucked on the D5 and there is a 1 2/3 stop improvement?
But for a RAW shooter that processes the file themselves I can guarantee there won't be even close to a 1 2/3 stop improvement in ISO. If that was true this camera sensor would be some tech we have never heard of.
That claim will be proven false just like every time this happens when a sponsored pre-review makes these claims (from all manufacturers).
Reading Clive's "review" and that Nikon brochure together it appears Nikon gave Clive a list of talking points that are identical to the brochure and he basically regurgitated the marketing spiel. This guy may be the best sports photographer there is but he is as biased as they come. Any "review" that doesn't mention a single criticism is the biggest waste of time.
It is a report on key findings of testing that is published to advertise the camera, and equally inform prospective owners of how the D6 compares to the D5. It's obvious the ISO2000 quip applies to in-camera jpgs only. Fine, and it's obviously stated in that context ie he's not claiming this for RAW to my reading. The article does not mention RAW, in fact. I agree let's see what Bill Claff tells us about the specs when he tests the D6 sensor , he and others stress the RAW output. Again we wait....
As when I read Jeff McNally's blogs and magazine columns, bear in mind he's a Nikon fan and a Nikon ambassador. Same with Moose Peterson, but I have still learnt a great deal from them. However, do they broadcast blatant lies and false claims?
