Oh Boy, technology is so much fun! As I mentioned, I trashed my QNAP 16 Bay set up and am recreating it on OWC 8 Bay Thunderbay RAID units. Spent all weekend trying to copy folders from one RAID to another but kept encountering a strange problem. My data would begin to copy and might transfer for a couple of minutes, to several hours, but at some point the drives would go quiet and the transfer would cease. I tried and tried but the same thing happened. This morning I called OWC and their tech people told me that they were aware of the problem, which began with a Catalina update that took place on Friday. So, it's a Softraid/Catalina incompatibility and OWC is working diligently on it, but they could not tell me whether Apple is doing the same. The tech people at OWC and I came up with a work around, albeit tedious (but what the heck, I got nuthin' but time!), it seems that you can transfer files of 30GB and under without the problem kicking in. So far, that seems to be working. I love being on the cutting edge.............................
OWC's tech people are wonderful, real people who aren't in Mumbai and don't ask you to "reboot your machine........." every 30 seconds. They work the problem with you and are extremely knowledgeable. Good news, if there is any, I have not updated my MacBook Pro to the latest version of Catalina, so I can hook the the 8 Bay arrays up to the MBP and back files up that way until everyone gets their act together. Roseanna Roseanna Danna Danna was correct........"It's always something............!"
