Yes, it is.
I bought Nikkor 200mm F/2 VR from Roberts camera on eBay at 2600 fair price for 6months warranty in 2015.

Roberts is a good outfit. My general rule for buying Nikkors is to pay no more than 60% of the average selling price on ebay for a mint copy. This used to be easy 7 to 20 years ago when private sellers were dumping their manual focus lenses to buy autofocus, and prices would vary all over the place. More recently the asking prices for Nikkors are standardized and commercial sellers take the time to research and wait out. I have been successful buying from state liquidators (american word for the state of a deceased person), they don't test the lens and sell as is, post crummy photos of the lens but often it turns out to be a like new lens that was never really used. Case in point shown below.

I am not a formal collector, I buy mint lenses to care for and use, have passed worn 55mm 1.2s that were in the first 50 made in favor of a mint one in the first thousand.

Yes, I would drain the bank account and buy a 58mm 1.2 Noct (or three) for $2K, or that 300mm 2.0 for $12K, at those prices they are safe 'investments', anything higher I would let it pass and buy a mint 10.5cm which I would enjoy using just as much or maybe more than a really long heavy lens.
.
I do thank you for the encouragement, if you want to contribute to my museum send me some checks!!!!

Rafael - that 80-200 2.8 is drool worthy and has always been on my wish list.

This is what gear photos are SUPPOSED TO DO!

That is why I encourage them. Loved you gear shot as well and could help but feel the lens was the very best part... but them I'm prejudiced on such things...
