I got up at 4:45 this morning to drive north on Vancouver Island to Deep Bay in order to capture a bird which is one of my nemesis - the Long-tailed Duck. Lamentably, there were only two females, which don't have the graceful, long tail.
These images are not great IQ wise, but conditions were horrific. Low light, very distant birds requiring the 2X extender on the 600mm f/4, and cropping! However....
Pacific Loon in winter plumage:
Long-tailed Duck (female)
Horned Grebe in winter plumage:
Red-necked Grebe in winter plumage:
Harlequin Duck in flight (crap image quality, but miraculous what the a9 can do even with a 2X extender in the dark)
