This is a medical update. Those who where expecting photography, and / or those of a delicate disposition. please look away now!
Those who have been in these parts for some time will know that I have an ongoing battle with Iron Deficiency Anaemia. This year the battle has been fought – and lost – in the testing arena, with a side order of iron infusions and debility. I’ve had all the ‘scope action, do it yourself gastro movie making, scanning and radio active dye X ray test known to medical science. All results reported as “normal”. Thea says I’m a lot of different things, but “normal” is not one of them! To cap it all my Hb went from 134 (just about in the normal range) to 63 in 28 days. Apparently this was outside any previous experience of the whole Gastro department. Oh well. They’ve now given up on the diagnostics. Good news is that they passed me on to the surgical team. Long story short, I had a minor procedure a couple of weeks ago and that looks to have been a success. My GP (family doctor) and I have found an Iron tablet that I can tolerate – provided that I follow a strict routine. So far Hb level has shown a small recovery, so hopeful I can get myself out of the Iron Infusion thing. In the meantime I continue to be a miserable bad tempered waste of space.
We now return you to your scheduled programme
