I have a very high success rate of nailing eye af at 1.2 at closer focus distance. Very impressive honestly. I did do a birthday session of two 1 year olds and i was really pleased with the eye af success rate.
Remember sigma will most likely release a firmware update improving the lens performance most likely as they have done for the 35 1.4 and 105 1 4. Sure i may have one or two missed focus on a baby's eyes as they moved around but i always took multiple shots with fill flash and typically higher than 1/100sec shutter speed. These are not sport lenses and i am shooting on a a7riii so i wouldn't expect a9 like af performance 😁
Overall very happy with af. It will most likely improve with firmware updates. I will post examples of close focus on babies eyes later on today for you guys to see. I also did a self portrait with the wife at 1.2 on a timer and was happy with the af on full body environmental type shot focuses on face nice and sharp! 😊👍
