I made it back from the trip to Ecuador.Tired but excited about what I saw there. But this is an image before the trip though...

Hi Joshua,

Excellent image. Welcome back. I look forward to seeing images that you have brought back from your trip. Any problems in getting your big lenses like the 600mm GM on to your flights? Which did you finally decide on adding to your kit, the 200-600mm G or 100-400mm GM?

Rich

Rich, thank you very much! No, none whatsoever. I am using a regular (non-photography) roller bag for 2 years or so. I put the big lens in the middle, cradled between the 2 ribs for the bag extension plus a lens cradle from my ThinkTank Glass Limo on the other end. The lens has a lens coat and as such I am not worried about stuff getting rubbed on the lens. I ended up taking the 200-600mm as well that I ended up not using much. I should have taken the GM 100-400mm lens for its better close focus capability. The zoom lens has lens cover and it was placed next to the GM 600mm. Three camera bodies and the 24-105mm inside pouches were inside pouches were in the bag. I could have gotten away with just 2 bodies and 2 lenses on this strictly birding trip. I also took batteries for the cameras, batteries for the flash, charger, and some other small items in the bag in pouches; so they are secured and do not rub against the other content while the tripod, bullhead, flash, etc. were inside the checked in luggage.

The roller is really inconspicuous and nobody said anything at all airports about the size nor look. I took my long Canon lens this way, too. Fairly compact, convenient to roll during transit at airports; I did away with carrying backpacks several years ago . It fits nicely in the overhead bin. Not very light of course and I still manage to lift it up there for storage.
