Great comparison Massimo. I’ve often wondered if those lenses are worth the investment.
Are you referring to the Zeiss primes? Well... It depends
There are many factors to consider:
- Zoom vs prime
Not all zooms are as good as the Canon 24-70 f/2.8 II, out of the ones I've tried I would say Canon 70-200 f/2.8, Nikon 14-24 f/2.8, Olympus 12-40 f/2.8. I am sure there are more, but not that many
- MF vs AF
I mostly shoot static subjects, MF with Zeiss lenses and focus confirmation works pretty well for me in such scenario. Yet my fastest MF lens is f/2.0 and often a stop down a bit. I am not sure I could handle MF on a 85 mm f/1.4...
- Good lenses have their own "character", I have a love affair with Zeiss 21 mm f/2.8, I like a lot Zeiss 25 f/2.0 (and my Canon 24 mm f/2.8 stay at home most of the times). I own a Zeiss 35 mm f/2.0, it has a great reputation, but I never fell in love with it. I like Canon 35 mm f/2.0 much more
- Cost. I bought my three Zeiss lenses all second-hand. Yet they are not cheap
