Girl on a Cafe Terrace 1981

The idea was a bit like a scene from a 1950's film from eg Claude Lelouch

Image walking down Boulevard Saint Michel, or maybe down the street in downtown Manhattan, or any busy business district, escaping from the office for a short spell to do an errant

Then along the way your eye is caught by a beautiful young woman sitting on a terrace, leisurly smoking a cigarette ( this is in the days when smoking in public wasn't considered a crime yet , and no, I'm a non smoker) indifferent to the hustle and bustle around her

She's way out of your league of course, and you're too busy with 'work things' , but nevertheless for a brief moment you stop dead in your tracks, to just watch and observe her, a fleeting moment of beauty, maybe ?

But of course she's sees you, yet you, even while being a bit embarrassed on being caught out, can't keep from looking at her

leaving you no other option then to hastily shuffle away somewhat ashamed

But as a parting gift she gives you a bright smile to last for the rest of the day,

that for a brief moment keeps you with your head in the clouds, only to crash back down to earth by the snarl of the passerby you bump into continuing your way
