Dan (and Peter),
My connections with Bob were also positive and great fun. Not quite 25 years ago, I became pretty good friends with Scotty Moore (no relation, AFAIK), Elvis Presley's guitar player from 1954-1968. Scotty had a very nice studio at his home, in Nashville. He also had a group of long-time friends that used to come about once a month to record together, much of the time just for the hell of it; and to work together in the easy way people can who have played with each other off and on for 40 years. I got to attend a bunch of those sessions. The most frequent participants were Scotty, engineering (arthritis limited his guitar involvement); Bob, of course, playing bass; usually Billy Swan, singing; Fred Satterfield or DJ Fontana on drums; and Bucky Barrett, who spent many years with Roy Orbison, on guitar. Alvin Lee actually recorded an album there, but I couldn't get to those sessions. This was back when I drank, and ate recklessly—as did most of them. So, after the sessions, I got to sit around with them, sipping Scotch and eating fried chicken cooked by Scotty's long-time-companion, Gail Pollock. It was pretty damn good fun for me, a bozo with no musical skills of any kind! Sad to say, both Scotty and Gail died about 3-4 years ago. I deeply miss the social glue they provided! DJ more recently died, but I am still in contact with Billy, Fred, Bucky, and Bob's wife Kittra. I don't get the sense the information is all around everywhere, but Bob now has pretty bad dementia. Kittra seems to be an enduringly patient caretaker. I'll take the liberty of sharing with her your story of Bob's having been a gracious guy to you. Best wishes to both of you bass fellows!! Jacques
Another person I met frequently was James Burton. A renowned guitar player from the old days. He too was in Austin with Bob.
Alvin Lee, Tens Years After, is one of my favorite musicians and his band also.
Small world Jacques!!
