As a non-religious person, I find it amusing that you claim to be religious and then also claim to be spiteful with your decisions. That doesn't reflect kindly on your religion or your church.
For many conservative and orthodox Jews, the doing of business on the Sabbath is not allowed, even if they allow others or machines to actually do the operations. (This same belief was for Christians a part of what used to be the "Sunday" laws that closed almost all businesses on Sundays.) By letting others operate their business, they are still doing business and making money on the Sabbath, and that is what is not allowed. If you think about it, doing so might easily detract from the observances and thoughts that the Sabbath is dedicated to. It is a separation of the sacred from the profane.
As a committed free-market capitalist, I am still glad that there are some values that trump doing business and making money. I think they ought to be respected for that decision--it costs them a lot money.
