Re: Nikon 50mm f/1.8s - Official Image & Resource Thread
Z6 is on loan from nps
they don't loan out S glass yet
bought the 50 for this trial.
set it up this morning
did some testing around the house, I have two sessions later today.
so far so good.
want to jot down some initial findings in case I end up writing a comparison with the Z6, Eos R, A7III/RIII
Z6 with 2.00 EYE AF is very good, not quite 100%, but it is REALLY good, like 96% lol
nikon should be REALLY proud of themselves.
this camera is 10000x better than an Eos R.
the 4 year old is an IMPOSSIBLE beast to shoot, Sony EYE AF handles it really well. Nikon is right there! close enough to spend money on nikon gear right now!
it works from distance, unlike canon's offering - which is pathetic.
the beast didn't let me shoot her today, and she has long hair, so did not get any glamour shots of her lol.
w/b on the screen and evf doesn't seem accurate.
set up a manual w/b using expo disk
looks too green on camera.
looks better on monitor once downloaded.
JPG engine is solid! I wonder if it's the same as the d850/d500 combo?
skin tones look good and easier to dial in (even with jpg) than Sony raw/jpg
metering seems solid, perhaps a little better than Sony
ergo is good.
I am a little frustrated when using the F1/2 buttons in combination with the dials - seems a bit awkward for me. I miss the old buttons for Af mode/etc on the D850. can't have everything!
I really wish they put out ONE 1.4 portrait lens by now, either 50/85, c'mon!
the 50 1.8s is a good lens, don't take it the wrong way!
something more exotic, one year in, would have been nice. perhaps that is what is hurting them with regard to market share at the moment.
sharing generic images, showing jpg
there seems to be a sharpening issue with the raws IMO
again, sorry nothing glamorous here, just showing some testing images to display some:
skin tones,
fringing,
bokeh,
etc, from moving sliders for a minute in LR
