I agree that PD is generally over-designed with extra prettiness standing in to give the illusion of extra functionality or performance.
But I also agree that most of their stuff also functions well-enough for their purposes, though not necessarily much better than products of comparable or even half their price.
This tripod does look very well designed, and there are certainly some nice features to it. But "half the size of a traditional travel tripod" C'mon!

I suppose an argument could be made that it appears, from this image, that the PD tripod is half the width of these other traditional tripods? But certainly not the length.
