Changing the pace now... I am totally blown away at the speed falcons can actually fly and how swiftly they maneuver themselves in the sky. FYI, their prey is...other birds. No wonder, they have to be very agile .
Rich, if you get the A9, and the FE 1.4X TC, plus the lens, of course, then there is a good chance you could. I am not kidding. The system will do it for you, well, almost. Set the A9 AF to either Wide or Zone AF with the tracking on and as soon as you get the system to lock on the falcon or any other target, you just have to follow the falcon around while it is doing aerial acrobatic, then voila, you get it!. You have to be nimble to be able to keep the falcon within the frame though but then the camera/lens combo will do the work pretty much for you. You practice a few times and you should be able to pull if off. For that you may want to handhold the system and set the shutter speed at 1/200sec and using the Auto ISO to freeze the motion.
Although I prefer the result of my Canon 600mm lens I adapted on the A9 but that lens is heavy for me to handhold and on a tripod, my movement is much more restricted and AF-wise, the adapted lens is no match to a native lens, like the GM 100-400mm. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
