In fact as a result of working as an environmental consultant for some years, I would frequently ship equipment that I could not get onto an airplane (not photo equipment except maybe tripods and support equipment) in coolers to meet me at my shooting locations when necessary and to then hide and protect, and keep my photo equipment in the cooler in the car. When using the coolers as shipping cases, the coolers would be duct taped closed which would act to maintain chain of custody.
