Last night I was at a wedding and the photographer had both the Z7 and Z6. I haven’t held either so I took the opportunity to make some chit chat at a time where he wasn’t busy. He let me shoot with the Z7 on some sigma glass (with adapter and Nikon 105). In my short time holding it I would say the camera felt great and the the viewfinder is fantastic. A grip would be good for those times when you need it.
He seemed to be very happy with both cameras.
Would be nice if they made a version with more physical controls, although I’m sure a lot of that can be customized on the extra buttons.
How to really subjectively rate Z7 is really depend on what and how you shoot it. It is not most versatile camera on the market to cover all the field like D850 (or A7RIII do) However, it really shine for many thing it does right which I value highly. I absolutely enjoy using it. I made a right choice for myself and have zero envy for any other cameras include Nikon on the market. There is no better 35mm system than Z7 for my personal need.
