Not really. As I recall, the Leica R 800mm f5.6 Modular Apo-Telyt lens was around $15,000 in 1988. I had the pleasure of Leica Camera USA loaning this lens to me for a month in February of 1998. Before that was the Leica R 800mm f6.3 which as I recall in the mid 70's to early 80-'s was around $29,000.

Then there was this monster from Leica, the 1600mm f5.6 lens (only 1 was made available and I believe parts for a second for repair) with a reported price of $2,000,0000. There are other very expensive lenses as well.
