After a long break from extreme macro since changing over to Sony years ago, I've been getting back into it. These were with my a7rii, Laowa 25mm 2.5-5x ultra macro, Laowa twin flash, and a home made diffuser. The 25mm has a good working distance for an ultra macro lens, and seems to perform well enough.
This beautiful ant was at 5x magnification.
Another photo at 5x magnification, of a tick. I had the tick on a sheet of paper, and had to keep sliding the paper back like a treadmill to get a photo of this quick moving little guy.
And of course no ultra macro post is complete without a jumping spider, this time at 2.5x.
So far I'm pretty pleased with this set up. All of these photos were single exposures hand held at f/8; focusing is very tough and requires cooperative subjects and patience. If I had too much money to deal with, I'd buy another camera to permanently mount the macro lens to (I am convinced Sony reverse engineered a dust filter to make their sensors...). But otherwise I'd definitely recommend the Laowa ultra macro lens and twin flash.
