Hi Fred, I still use this method. I did buy an additional, thin and cheap 77mm filter. I broke this lens to use the 77mm ring. It gave me 2 things;
1. More surface area to apply the flocking tape on the outer edge.
2. Placed the actual glass of the ND/CPL a little bit farther away from the lens’ glass, allowing for me to get to around 13mm with any contact between lens and filter.
