FWIW, I updated my Neewer with the Godox firmware, and the AF illuminator works!

Works on A7rii and A7ii with Sony lenses and my Sigma 16mm 1.4. Did not work with LA-EA4 and Tamron lens.
Did not work in any way on A6500.
