I need to be honest: it reminds me a bit on the Canon 5D MkII and MkIII story years back: no improvement in sensor, just focus on AF performance. I personally hoped to see a 60 MP FF sensor with even more DR.....

Sorry, not interested in the A7R III since I don't need 4K video nor all the AF features....and not getting some of the Sony apps anymore is a big bummer here, too.

It's not like the 5D Mk II to Mk III in the sense Sony claim's 1-stop improvement in dynamic range and there is also doubling of the frame rate. The 5D Mk III was more like a AF / body ergonomics upgrade.

I was also excepting higher resolution but it seems that 42.2MP is the sweet spot for improving DR while still having high resolution and great video specs. Still no ISO 64 though.

Yes...but the improvement in regard to sensor and IQ is still minimal (let's see in final tests how effective the 1 step in DR really is and where it counts (low/high ISO)) - and this is what I related to with the 5D MkII/III comparison (ok, in the Canon case there was zero improvement in IQ, now here with Sony it is a tiny bit). And fps....I find it totally useless for applications the A7R originally was made for. 1 fps is totally fine for me with this kind of high res/high DR camera....different story for the A9 where applications for it need this kind of high fps. If I would upgrade from my A7R, it clearly would be the A7R II and not the A7R III.
