They most certainly are not removing play memories. I think there will just be a new version. Play memories in mentioned many times in the spec page. See here:
I'm less than certain. The A7RII specs page states:
PlayMemories Camera Apps™
Yes
Whereas the A7RIII specs page you linked to states:
PlayMemories Camera Apps™
-
The dash (instead of "yes") suggests to me the feature isn't present. The A7RII features page states the following:
Sony's application download service lets you add new functions and capabilities to your camera. There are apps for photo and movie effects to enhance and express your creativity, and others to allow your smartphone to function as a camera's remote control, for example
The only mention of playmemories in the A7RIII specs pageis to pairing with the Playmemories App on a smartphone, there is no mention of downloading apps onto the camera, (unlike with the A7RII page):
The camera can be paired with the PlayMemories Mobile app
PlayMemories Home application can be used on a personal computer
Ratings from 1 to 5 stars can be applied to still images and maintained as the images are imported into PlayMemories Home
Just install the PlayMemories Mobile app via Wi-Fi to your NFC-enabled Android device
I really hope you're right and they are releasing an improved app platform with the camera...
