Re: Nikon 28mm f/1.4E ED Image Thread

If those who are on the fence about the 28mm could consider this, I think it would be wise.

If you go from 24/35 to 28, and you have a d850 d810, you can crop. even without cropping, it's just a half step different perspective. I really don't miss 35 at all. But obviously there are folks who would/do.

so don't sell anything.
put the 28 on a credit card, and get it from adorama.
use it for a couple weeks and then decide. you can always return it within a month.

I am at 20 28 50 85 for primes, I just prefer 50 a lot, and 85 a lot... or I would keep my 58, but I decided to sell it.

I also have 70-200E and 24-70E for weddings, which is nice. the 24-70 is usually on my assistant, I haven't touched it all year. But the 70-200E is STELLAR.

For intimate sessions, I go 28/85. For family portrait sessions where it's more than just one kid, I swap the 85 to my 70-200.

For casual, when I'm with my family and carrying more than just photo gear, I bring out the 20 1.8g and 50 1.4g if I'm going to be inside, or the 50/85 if I'm going to be outside. the 20/50 combo, is obviously quite small and light. If I am going to a festival or something, I just bring a 50mm. It's my favorite "only have one prime" on FF. I can NOT wait for a 50 1.4e. and that will make my 28e 50e 70-200e the best holy trinity ever created. and I would probably sell my 50 1.4g and 85 1.4g when that happens.

Since many of you have the 58 and love it, I'll go here:

24 35 58
vs
20 28 58

I see the 20 28 58 as more versatile, plus having the best WA on the market. with the beautiful bokeh you want and deserve, excellent flare resistance. sigma art sharpness, which is almost essential on the d850 :P
investment wise, it's similar as the 20 is cheap, so it's not as bad as you think.

for wedding shooters, the 28 is just sublime for groups. you won't have to challenge yourself with regard to which WA (24/35) to use.
cheers
