I see Jose found a new toy, the 5.8cm 1.4. Taking bets that he will pull off some superb bird pics with it

On your request Sir!

I had to cheat a little putting the TC201 between camera and lens to get some reach

The combo, some Nikkor porn:

V1 + FT1 + TC201 + Nikkor-S 5.8cm f1.4 by Jose, on Flickr

Taken with D610 + Nikkor-S.C 55mm f1.2 ai'd, ISO 100, wide open at 1/1250s.
This combo is a 58x2x2.7= 313.2mm focal length. The hood is from the 50/1.2: HS-12.

And the results (all wide open!) at ~ 2.5m of distance from subjects:

Sayaca Tanager:

Male Burnished-buff Tanager:

Female Burnished-buff Tanager:

Male:

All shots V1 + FT1 + TC201 + Nikkor-S 5.8cm f1.4 (= 116mm f2.8) + tripod, ISO 200, wide open at 1/320 to1250s; 75% cropped (7.5/10MB).
I was surprsied how good is the sharpness of this lens wide open even with a 2x TC! Supposedly this occurs because the V1 is using the sweet spot at the centre of the lens.
