Mark, Yes, I thought that was an interesting article. Holding hope that Nikon will come out swinging with a FF mirrorless in a classic style.

Re: the mods to the Df. Best thing I ever did with mine was put the Type K3 split image/microprism focusing screen in mine. What was old, is new. Hard to beat a great optical VF. Well will keep my GAS down for the moment anyway. Especially since a Df(2) is not on the horizon.

Hi George! I can imagine your Type K3 split image/microprism screen is working fantastic with your manual focus lenses, but I'm curious as to how it works with your new AF 200-500 lens? Does it interfere in anyway with autofocus lenses?

Most of my lenses are manual focus... several Zeiss and Nikkors; and I only have two autofocus lenses at the moment... my 200f2VRII and my Sigma Art 50. I'm a one body guy, so I'm just wondering if the spit image/microprism would be advantageous for both type of lenses.

Best wishes,
Don

Don - no issues at all. Tested at different ranges shooting my LensAlign target and did not have to enter any AF offsets. I got a keeper

I have the Df set to not show the Focus Point with MF glass mounted and show it when AF glass is mounted. That way the focus point does not interfere with the Split Image center of the K3 focus screen. I have read that the K3 may slightly impact spot metering, but nothing that I have really noticed. I shoot fully manual most of the time.

Below are two quick attempt examples to show the K3 screen in the Df. Shot with the Fuji using the Micro-Nikkor 55mm/3.5 through the viewfinder of the Df.

George,
Please let me know from where did you get the Type K3 split screen from and who installed it for you. Thanks very much.

Its available from B&H and my guess is our handy friend George installed it himself... But I'm interested in how challenging installation was and whether there was a need to use shims to deal with focus accuracy... though if he is relying exclusively on what the split screen offers what you see IS what you get...

The Nikon Type K3 screen will not fit the Df as made. There is a company in Taiwan (focusingscreen.com) that modifies the stock screens to be used in various bodies. Type K3 is only one type they offer. Installation instructions are also posted on their webpage.

I did the installation myself and no shims were needed. Shims were included with the kit.
