Don't regret the shutter speed. You were really lucky to get this. It is beautiful! Looks like an old Red Maple in a hardwood stand on an overcast day. I can feel it. I too have never seen a wild GHO in daylight in the northeast woods ... in Everglades yes.... several.
You did well just to spot this bird; capturing a wild one in the north woods is unusual.
