Peire, always impressed by the order and the cleaning of these villages... your posts seem a tourist advertisement and I'm tempted to visit those places... maybe one day BTW very nice captures
Could you tell me some more about the leaning tower? Seems the last part at the top is less leaning and also bricks seem different... Thanks in advance!
Manuel
Thank you Manuel.Very kind of you.I photograph the places I love, trying to show their normal, everyday beauty as seen through my eyes. Not all of them are neat and tidy everywhere of course. Many require investments and restoration to look as they used to until the WWII,but all efforts are evidently going the right direction, which pleases me.
As for the tower - it was erected at about 1250 as a part of a little knight's castle, before the town was established. In 1280ties was incorporated into the city walls.Converted into churche's campanille in 1413.In 1598,after local earthquake it get deviated from vertical by 1.5m.In 1858 great fire has destroyed it's upper part, which was rebuilt and straighten somehow. From that time it serves as a historical monument and touristic attraction.
Walls are more than 4m thick.Height - 32m.This is the highest leaning tower in Poland. To get to the top you have to go up 132 steps.Current deviation from vertical - 2,1m.The base is made of field stones.Medieval bricks were put upon them. The upper part consist of contemporary,XiX'th century brick used for reconstruction after the fire.Hence the difference in bricks look.
