I realize that there are not-far-off limits for me. This helps me enjoy seeing and studying those great photos; pure admiration and no envy.
But I also like seeing not-so-great shots when I feel my approach to a particular scene could have been better.

That's the spirit, Henry! I don't know whether you saw the poll a few months ago about the different age groups of Sony users. I am definitely up there age-wise and I am still learning and trying to improve. And we are all in there together. We simply don't stop doing that until we kick the bucket.
