The plan from the beginning was for GFM to grow quickly and cash out, selling it to company with deep pockets like Facebook or Google. Word is they hoped to sell for some huge amount, like $100 million or even more. At $100 million, somebody with 1% share would be an instant millionaire.
At this point, Brent Doscher, Marty and others at GFM are under tremendous pressure (which may help explain the scathing email to the wrong person), because all their eggs are in one basket. Their company is going down in flames before their very eyes, not to mention that it is doing so publicly. By all indications, that stock has no value. One can only imagine the panic these guys are in right now. They are desperate to stop the damage, but with a ruined brand, it's already too late.
