I got a mint copy of the 24-70GM the other day. I was very impressed with what I a saw at 24, 35 and even 50mm . From Fred\'s and Guy\'s tests I knew that 70mm was the weak spot, but on mine it looked pretty bad. The 70-300G at 70mm f5.6 or f8 looked better, which didn\'t sound or look right to me. I complained to the store. They couldn\'t replicate what I saw, but sent the lens in. So it\'s now at Sony for testing. We\'ll see. It\'s an irony that the most expensive Sony lens I\'ve purchased thus far is the first one I\'m sending in.
Chris,
I recently tested a few 24-70 Gm\'s and the 70-300 @ 70mm, landscape shots at f5.6. Light was fading, and cloud cover was starting to come in, so far from ideal test conditions.
However I shot all lenses within 5 minutes of each other, so all had just as bad conditions to work with.
Tripod, steady shot off.
Anyway, on every shot, on all copies of the GM, the 70-300G was more detailed @70mm..
Just had to register to say that as I\'d hate for you to keep buying new ones, thinking the GM should be better.
Weather isn\'t looking great here any time soon, but if the sun ever comes out I\'ll post some shots.
