Re: Fuji Medium Format Digital System is on it's way...

\"Highly nuanced means that there is a slight degree...\"

So, you are still going with \"drastically\" \"nuanced,\" then? I don\'t think you are strengthening your case. A \"nuance\" is something characterized by subtlety, almost the literal opposite of something that is \"drastic.\" ;-)

I\'m alternately amused and aggravated by appeal to lens magic, which almost inevitably end up proposing that the least common, most expensive, and most unusual lenses must possess some sort of image making magic and therefore produce photograph that cannot be equaled by modern and more humble lenses. But of course! If they didn\'t, why would one spend that money? And if one can (claim to) see the difference, then one must possess special abilities of seeing and special sensitivity!

It reminds me of a story a friend told me one time many years ago. He was an audio recording specialist, working primarily with live recording of professional classical and jazz artists and ensembles. One night backstage, when I was an orchestra stage manager, he came in almost unable to contain his laughter. He had just read some audiophile report about something called (IIRC) \"wonder solder.\" The idea was that even the top end audiophile equipment was soldered together with everyday solder and, so the makers claimed, after desoldering the high end components and desoldering them with Wonder Solder one would hear an expansion of the sound stage, greater sonic depth, a reduction of digital glare, and many more things that were, of course, pretty much nonsense. By the end of the story, he no longer could contain himself.

There are, indeed, differences between lenses. But not all differences produce a better/worse relationship — sometimes different is simply different.

Palm still in face,

and done.

Actually, it isn\'t. Nuanced is a word that can have to do with subtle differences. However, going back to its Latin amd French roots, it has more to do with color shades. Highly nuanced means that there is a slight degree of color variation across the entire spectrum. It can also be applid musically, but I forget the particulars of that. But for our purposes, the highly nuanced behavior is referring to lenses.

Sensors = more drastic differences
Lenses = highly nuanced color

Face palms? Seriously? Is it really come to that?

And I am sure I can find a source for the color relationship with nuance. Shoot, its probably mentioned in the dictionary.

I believe that is what we call an oxymoron.

Face palm II. ;-)
