That was my first thought, too. The mount is clearly too small for a 645 sensor.
Also Sony are unlikely to be interested in being small volume MF sensor supplier. Their goal will be to get to the critical mass where the unit price is low enough to sell in high enough volume (which in turn enables them to reduce the unit price etc.) With this goal in mind it makes sense to stick to the 44x33 format.
