Who thinks this? I have never actually seen this position stated here on FM that I can remember. After all, the most appropriate definition of professional to this discussion is \"participating for gain or livelihood in an activity or field of endeavor often engaged in by amateurs.\"
Of course, being a professional does not imply one is a better photographer than an amateur. I imagine many armatures take photos for personal fulfillment and not to make a living because they have other professional opportunities.
