OK, one last video to clearly illustrate the noise. People keep saying the audio gain must be too loud (they need to lower the volume on their end -- This is straight from my iphone to youtube with zero production value)

Here is the side by side comparison of the Sigma 50mm Art on my 5D3 vs. the 85mm GM on the A7RII with the latest 3.1 firmware... and having shot with the 85mm all day yesterday. (At the Formula D race in Long Beach, which I am happy to say, you totally can\'t hear the lens focusing in that environment).

We\'ve nicknamed the 85GM Darth Vader.

A the end of the video, when you actually take a picture, we can hear that audio level is on the high side. We all know how the A7RII shutter sounds in normal audio levels. However, your videos are very helpful illustrating the that 85/1.4\'s AF is definitely not quite like other FE lenses.

Precisely why these tests are bassackwards, the audio needs to come from the internal Sony cameras video! We can pre-set the levels in-camera, shoot a video clip with this and other lenses and do a proper semi-scientific comparison against other glass. We need a videographer to test who has access to a few copies.

EDIT: If the audio is recorded internally on the Sony body it would also prove OR disprove the manual focus points Guy is raising. If the 85GM cannot be manual focused without adversely affecting the internal audio that makes it un-fit for purpose of cinematography in its current condition, and therefore, there may well be an issue with this batch.

So the question to users with a good lens on manual focus doing the full swing from close to infinity do you hear any noise at all and is the tension the same on that rotational path. Mine seems normal until two meters than I feel grind, more tension and noise than when I get close to infinity or the end it goes back to normal. Now it does the exact same thing when in AF as well. It\'s like a garden hose thread in the middle it\'s chewed up . Same with inside of the focus ring it has groves that rotate it around. There is where the problem is its grinding. I also see inside thos 3 groups of 2slors looking to the outer permitted below the rails metal shavings as irritate the focus ring.
