I noticed the same with the FE 4/24-70 and I know of several constant aperture zooms (Minolta MD 3.5/35-70 for example) where it ist the same. You can actually mod that Minolta so that it becomes a 2.8-3.5. So I wouldn\'t worry about transmission.
