I\'d rather really good sharpness with really good behavior rather than uber-great sharpness with so-so behavior issues (i.e. nervous bokeh, CA, etc..
+1 @ John ... i.e. matching lens characteristics to subject matter (which can include shooting distances),
Using a \"portrait\" lens for landscapes or MFD work can be less than stellar, yet it sings at portrait distances. In that regard, sharp / well behaved @ what distance can come into play as well.
