Today, I met up with an old Milwaukee photographer friend who now lives in New Orleans. He took me to the Lower Ninth Ward. This is the area that took a direct hit from the Mississippi river when the levee broke during Hurricane Katrina . . . ten years ago. Much has been made about the progress the city has made to recover . . . and they have. However, there are still reminders, especially in this area, that there is still much work to do. While there are certainly prettier ares of the city and even grittier places, this is probably the most meaningful place I will visit during my time here. It\'s such a contrast to what people know and hear about the city.
