OK, Gregg and Ronny, though it\'s really to hot to write and even to take photographs here some thoughts on the 90 Macro (had just one short shooting in the garden, all shot wide open).
First, i did not want to buy this lens, i have the famous Leica R 100/2.8 Apo and i am using the tripod for macros. Stepping in to my local dealer i saw the 90 Macro, had a look and feel on it - bought it!
The lens is quite long but not to heavy (the 35/1.4 FE Distagon is heavier) and fits and handles good on the A7. Had the A7RII in mid with my decision, then IBIS plus OSS and a good AF will be clear advantages for the E-mount.
Meanwhile on the A7R:
AF is good for mid to long distances close up it is very slow and haunting (i switched to MF) .
The optical quality is excellent, great sharpness and micro contrast and a pleasing bokeh. Very little to none CA\'s. This is the level of the Leica R 100 Apo, whats even better is 1:1with no tubes and it keeps it\'s length from infinity to 1:1. Mechanically it is as well very good: You can switch of OSS on the lens, there are three ways to limit the AF and you can switch from AF to MF by just moving the MF ring fore or backwards, very well done.
It is a little early for a real verdict but i can say that i like the lens. Still i am sure i will never shoot as good macros as you Ronny with the 100 Planar......
Have a nice and hot weekend... going back to the garden and some water now...
