Re: Announced: Sony A7R II

Very interesting announcement. I am a Nikon user, having owned a D800 since release basically. I recently picked up a D810 and find it an absolute pleasure to use in every way; all my gripes with the D800 have been addressed and more. I did also dabble with Sony for a while; never selling out of Nikon but I did buy an A7r on the side and shot with that alongside my D800 for a few months. I recently sold the Sony (thankfully getting back exactly what I paid for it) - and today that decision is looking like an even better one.

Despite having only just pulled the trigger on the D810, I have no regrets. Fundamentally the reason I sold my A7r was that at every shoot where the two cameras were in my bag together, I would reach for the D800 every time. I just didn\'t enjoy shooting with the Sony all that much. I can\'t see that actually changing with the new body.

I shoot landscapes only; and certainly it\'s likely the 42MP sensor will offer an IQ upgrade. The 6MP resolution bump is a given, but what benefit we get from BSI remains to be seen. Also interested to understand if Sony have pushed dynamic range any further with the new sensor. From the perspective of the other features added, largely they don\'t really have any appeal to me as a landscape photographer. I never use auto focus or image stablisation as I am always tripod mounted. The welcome addition of EFCS is a great improvement over the A7r, but I already have it in my D810.

I am relieved to say that I don\'t really look at this body with any level of regret around buying my D810. Yes - the A7R II looks fantastic and if I hadn\'t just bought a D810 I may have given it more consideration, but as it stands... I am pretty happy.

For Canon users, jump ship now! This thing creams the 5DS/r.
