Concerning this variation between copies, my copy of the 100/3.5 (MM 6644048), failed to excite, in line with the slrlensreview test results http://slrlensreview.com/web/reviews/carl-zeiss-lenses-swhorizontalmenu-172/zeiss-telephoto/677-carl-zeiss-sonnar-t-100mm-f35-cy-lens-review
However, this is a lens I often hear others rave about, so I suspect copy variation to be responsible. Maybe I\'ll give it another go one day?
