#1 what do you mean not to use portrait picture scene mode? As long as I use JPEG I\'ll be using one of the picture control modes.
Two different things.
The SCENE mode is an auto kind of mode in the consumer Nikon cameras. ie. Set it to portrait when taking a portrait. Set it to sports when taking fast moving action. Etc. That\'s the dial on the top of the camera that says SCENE, and it will make decisions and set things presumably appropriate for taking those kinds of pictures.
The PICTURE CONTROL is a feature in the camera that has presets (with adjustment capability) for image rendition, mainly of concern for JPG shooters.
In that case, I never touched one of those scene mode as some people claimed. All those example photos were taken mostly in Aperture priority mode. I don\'t get why people assumed I used the scene mode.
Maybe because in your initial post you said \" Im using portrait setting \" ?
Scene modes and auto were put on cameras for folks who have no idea what they\'re doing in order for them to get a usable result. You are getting a lot of very good advice here so far from some folks who are much more patient than myself. I was attracted to photography some 40 years ago because it required one to use both sides of their brain. I enjoyed the artistic aspect of this hobby as well as the technical aspect. There was a time when you could take pride in the fact that you were disciplined enough to actually learn how a camera functions and gathers light. I am saddened to see a hobby that I\'ve enjoyed for so many years being reduced to something that requires the use of NEITHER side of your brain. Some people will say that this is a good thing because it allows more people to enjoy it. I disagree 100 %. It is now something that I\'m holding onto because it\'s the only hobby that I enjoy but it\'s all so common now that I sometimes want to throw all my gear in the nearest river. PLEASE don\'t feel this rant is directed at you. It isn\'t, you just happened to be my springboard. And I\'ll apologize in advance for any offense.
