I also stopped using the plastic hood and am using a $5 46mm vented screw-on hood. It\'s possible to use as is, though there is some moderate vignetting at wider apertures. But since the lens already vignettes a lot, it\'s not always that noticeable. I have since modified the hood by filing away the areas where it vignettes, resulting in a mild petal shape. A likely downside of this hood is if one uses a UV filter, ND, etc. as it will move the hood out farther, increasing vignetting. I rarely use filters and if I do, I\'d probably not use the hood for those times. But IMO, the 28 Cron benefits from use of a hood as it\'s somewhat susceptible to flare from bright light sources just outside the frame. Another downside is the vents don\'t line up properly with the Cron and cause some VF blockage... but it\'s only $5 and I guess some work with a Dremel might fix the problem. So far I have\'t bothered.
I also like the 12466 and was casually looking for one, but agree, the price is crazy. I wonder if there\'s a market for a knockoff...?
