zhangyue - My first impression of the lens (120APO) is that it\'s boring. The bokeh seems very Sigma in nature. Almost plastic looking. Also the falloff has \"issues\" I\'ll address this with photos when I can.
The good point is that it has great separation for full body shots, or half body horizontal crops. It doesn\'t really feel like a 85mm. It feels a lot more like a 135mm if you\'re thinking DSLR terms.
I haven\'t spent enough time with it to hate it. But I\'m not hopeful. One of the things I noticed immediately with the 70summarit was the fact that it felt strange (in a good way), much better then using FF. The 120APO seems to familiar. Really like the Canon 135L in many ways, but with the ability to knock the subject out of the background easier at all distances. And with a touch more breathing room, but still feels claustrophobic.
The Macro function seems not close enough... So much so, I find myself needing to back up off of a framing choice as the lens hits minimum focusing often. I think this lens should come with extension tubes.
The 35 Summarit-S seems like it would have been a better second lens. I\'m thinking of getting it, but need to do a few more shoots to decide if I want to fall that deep in with the S-system.
As for the type of work I know you like doing. Mainly documenting family life, your children. I think sticking with the 35/70 seems like the better choice. Although (and not to confuse things) I do remember you having a fondness of the 80 Summilux-R, so perhaps the 120APO might be a comfortable choice for you. I wouldn\'t say the two lenses are similar, but something while reviewing the 120APO shots made me think about the 80lux.
I\'ll know more in a few days. I\'m going to try to use this lens all weekend. No shoots planned though, so nothing serious to shoot.
Adam, thanks for the heads up and honest opinion. That lens should be up there with very few in terms of optics. I\'d love to buy it but it is facing steep competition from Zeiss MP100, APO100 Elmarit and Zeis 135APO from 35mm system. I really love what I see from S system, almost everything but potability and usability. this make me pause acquiring more lens for the system. As I mentioned, for landscape or travelling, S system are nice but it doesn;t make up what I can get from 35mm Nikon system in terms of usability and lens selection. For portrait, it is the best system I ever used but I am not professional, like you said, I mainly document family life. I need think twice before lay $4000+ cash on this focal length. Don\'t get me wrong that I am happy to use best system for the ones I love but I need prioritize my spending.
The two lens I have combine with S sensor really spoiled me make me want throw away my Nikon lens. sharpness, color and character....
As for 80lux look, I think 100cron might be more close in term of speed and rendering from what I see but sharper. I sold my R lens at the time of thinking get S portrait lens. and those R lens are not good match for D810 for focus ability, I might made the wrong choice that sell them than buy a DF with after market screen. who knows?
As for ZM, yeh, I see no need to lust it if you have 35fle. optics are close and Leica is smaller and still better builded IMO.
In term of Bokeh, I think It deserve better remark than most people think (or Edward and I gave). I really should say ZM35 have a quite nice bokeh from 35mm lens land. and optically, this one is equivalent to 50lux ASPH in my book, a strong remark. I wish they can further bring us a 85mm f1.4 at affordable price like this
but I need prioritize my spending.
