Re: Official: Canon 5DS, 5DS R and 11-24mm lens released!

I would not use the R for cityscapes due to the aliasing.
That sounds a bit premature. (I say this as a person who has shot quite a few cityscapes with a non-AA filter digital camera.)
However, given how much sensor resolution comes from a 50MP sensor that includes an AA filter, the 5DS (no R) is there as an alternative.

Don\'t you think that \"R\" sample (Yokohama Sky) looks pretty good or are you disappointed?
Since I\'m quite interested in the \"R\" model, I took a very close look at the cityscape, which is full of angled straight lines and cross-hatched patterns. At 100%, as expected with a very sharp photograph, you can see pixels (that\'s good!) but I don\'t see a single thing in that image that gives me concerns about the non-AA version.*
*I\'ll continue to write \"non-AA\" instead of \"with AA cancellation\" since its shorter and we all know what it means!

Yeah... that\'s the 70-200 IS MkII. Love that lens... Now imagine what the 135L would look like on that same shot...
Having used both extensively... I can tell you that it would have looked pretty much the same. :-)

At the end of a post offering a series of judgments before seeing test. (Quite a bit of that in this thread concerning the problems that some expect — want? — to see in the camera.)

I\'m confused. Did I just click the link for DPR or am I having a bad dream?

It occurred to me that there is nothing in the real world that would be \"good enough\" for a fair percentage of the posters in this thread. No matter what Canon had announced they would have been just as angst-ridden. Ah, well.
It\'s fine to not think this is the camera for everyone — it isn\'t! But the intensity of feeling about some of these things on this board is very odd, as is the apparent desire to see Canon as stupid or inept or manipulative. I\'m no worshipper of manufacturers or their products, but we\'re seeing a lot of comments here that represent the inverse fanboy population, particularly when it comes to tone.
It is just a camera folks. Sit down. Breathe slowly. Relax. Take a walk. ;-)

So I guess those of you accusing anyone who doesn\'t share your blind loyalty to Canon of having blind loyalty to someone else have never heard of irony, huh?
:-) Blind loyalty to any camera or brand is pretty pointless, I think.

Let me sum up the points...
Different photographers have different needs, use different workflows, and have different output scenarios.
Therefore:
When a camera company releases a new camera, some photographers will be more interested in it than others.
It\'s OK. We can all get along!
Yup, that\'s pretty much it. ;-)

They have apparently kicked the landscape niche in the teeth with steel toecapped boots.
As a landscape photographer I certainly don\'t see it that way. YMMV. Regarding lens prices (which I think was a point of this message), we see complaints about the cost of Canon lenses quite a bit. Last week I decided to do a comparison between Nikon and Canon to see if Canon is ripping us off. I looked at 16-35 (f/4), 24-70 f/2.8, 70-200 f/2.8, and 100-400 (80-400 for Nikon) and the result is... Canon costs less overall.

This might be the most depressing and unintentionally hilarious thread I\'ve ever read on FM. Braying or complaining about something you\'ve never actually held in your hands and used is a wonder. Wait for it, try it for yourself, vote with your wallet. Or continue shouting into the echo chamber, whatever. I\'m so glad I wasn\'t holding my breath for these releases...
This is turning into one of the worst complaint-fests I\'ve seen here in many years. It is almost embarrassing, whether you think the new cameras are good or not.
Carry on... ;-)
