Re: Official: Canon 5DS, 5DS R and 11-24mm lens released!
When I guessed that Canon\'s new FF high resolution camera would be a supersized 7DII, I got flamed for not believeing than Canon could do this and that.
When I said that a supersized 7DII would be fine for me because of the very low thermal noise, eliminating the need for long exposure NR, I got flamed for not wanting more dynamic range.
It is not true that the 5Ds will have the same dynamic range as the 5D3. The normalized DR will be around 13 Ev, the highest for any Canon sensored camera yet, with a margin of about 1 full Ev. That is because the fixed pattern noise is eliminated, and downsampling to resolutions like 22 MP wil reduce the noise. All assuming the same pixel quality as the 7DII.
The Sony A7r is a fine camera, but it has its little quirks as well. They have all been discussed on the Alternative and Sony boards. Canon as we know it does not have those same quirks, there is always give and take. This time I will take the 5Ds. It may be my last Canon camera.
