I too, ditched my 300 2.8 + 2x teleconverter for this lens. Its sharpness surprised me, and it is VERY capable for birds in flight. What I like most is it provides so much maneuverability with its light weight and ability to zoom in and out for landscape type shots to close up. I can carry it with a black rapid strap and hand hold it all day. It\'s been a pleasant surprise.
I too look forward to comparing it to the Sigma Contemporary, as the Sport would be too heavy compared to this lens.
