Nice images on this page. I have a question to ask everyone who may have experience. I should probably ask on the Leica M page, but since I don\'t have an M body, I\'m asking here!
I\'m looking into a Summilux M 50 pre-ASPH, preferably the E43 Mandler version, but not discounting the E46, either. I love Jack\'s pics with his ASPH, but can\'t afford that one. Can anyone provide input...and, btw, I\'m keeping my Nokton 50 1.5 ASPH, too. I\'m not too concerned with corners as I plan to use it WO-2.8 more than not...
I hear lots of debates over \"Mandler vs non-Mandler\"...but if anyone has definitive input, I\'d love to hear it!!
Thanks,
Gregg
I have no first hand experience with the pre-ASPH Summilux 50, but if they are similar to the 75 Lux I would think both versions are perfectly fine, probably slightly soft with that famous glow wide open, and then sharp a few stops down. Also, I could be wrong, but the MFD and the filter size changed over the years, but otherwise the two versions aren\'t that different from what I understand.
I have some experience with two Mandler lenses, though: I own the Elmarit 90 2.8 and I\'ve briefly rented the Lux 75. I personally find the bokeh of the Mandler-designed lenses way superior to that of my CZ 55 1.8 which sometimes displays the infamous onion ring bokeh.
I don\'t know whether these are good examples, but anyways here goes:
