Me? I\'m plenty happy putting 18mp of 1DX goodness at 700mm (500mm + 1.4x) to \"good\" use, although if the 7D2 proves to be pretty decent I might be tempted.

Yes, yes I did It was partially tongue in cheek knowing the small \"must...have....it...now...at any cost\" crowd would be selling their kidneys on the black market for it, like they did with the grossly overpriced 200-400L, but also knowing that the sensible (IMO) option for Canon would be to release a super sensor in a super duper 5D body to compete with the the exmor sensor\'d bodies.
I think you have answered your own question. Tongue and cheek or not.
You\'re quite happy using your $7000 1DX and your $9000 500L to good use. Clearly there are people out there willing to spend those sums of money on camera gear.
You are quite right, there a market, which I have acknowledged, however my point is that with the competition offering high mp and high DR at a \"low\" price, it would have been more sensible for Canon to do the same. It means Joe Average Nikon shooter, who is not a wealthy man, can afford to shoot high mp, high DR range images, while Joe Average Canon shooter, who is also not a wealthy man, doesn\'t have that option. There are a heck of a lot more Joe Averages out there than Rich Dudes (or successful cash rich photography businesses). This means all these Joe Average Canon shooters either have to stick with what they have or explore affordable alternative brands. Whats the number of 5Dii\'s sold compared to 1DSmkiii\'s? I\'d venture to say that despite being an inferior camera body in almost every way, the 5Dii outsold the 1DSmkiii by some margin. Admittedly it will be exciting if this camera does surface and gets into users hands to live vicariously through their experiences
