Zeiss FE Vario-Tessar 24-70/4 - big disappointment.I dont like it\'s performance at 24mm - soft corners even stopped to f11 and pronounced barrel distortion (still vivible at 28mm).But what I don\'t like most it\'s lack of microcontrast throughout the zoom range. This lens does not deserve Zeiss name and price premium. It should have costed 500 Euro max and be branded just Sony.Vario-Sonnar 35-70/3.5 C/Y and Distagon 25/2.8 C/Y is a much better option.
All the pictures below were sharpened 50% with cranked up vibrance + 15 and +15 clarity and 60% highlights decreas in LR5.4 to make them look more Zeissy At 24mm,28mm and 35mm barrel distortion was corrected. All taken at f8.

I pretty much increase the vibrance, contrast, and the saturation with my Minolta CLE 40mm f2 M-Rokkor, Leica R, and Contax (C/Y) 21mm f2.8 Zeiss Distagon lenses for my RAW A7r files. I almost always crank then up to close to what you have indicated.

My Zeiss C/Y,ZE/ZF and Rollei HFT lenses don\'t require that much tweaking to get comparable results.Usually only a touch (5-10%) of vibrance and clarity,no saturation and no contrast cranking up.The 16-70/4 needs to be PPed significantly more than all other Zeisses I have.Just like lenses of other brands with lower IQ.
Peire,
I need to increase my settings a little more with my Contax (C/Y) 21mm f2.8 Zeiss Distagon a little more than my Leica R lenses and I believe a little more than my Minolta CLE MC 40mm f2 M-Rokkor lens.
