If it were internal zoom it\'d have to be much larger to start with. While not as elegant, having a zoom that extends makes for a more compact design for travel. At least it\'s a twist zoom and I hope 100-400L II becomes twist. Push-pull is ok, but I never feel the friction is just right and often you tighten the zoom ring to stop it shifting FL then forget and when a bird is rapidly approaching you lose crucial seconds having to loosen it, but often you can do it one handed as it\'s tightened up further. Bird is often gone when you get it done. You could leave the friction ring loose, but can also cause problems.
